Slater's pool CT format revealed

All against all, the largest sums of left and right get into a final of eight men and four women

With the opening of ticket sales for the Surf Ranch Pro, the first CT event in a wave pool, part of the competition format was revealed, one of the big questions that still remained unanswered.

The WSL reports that: “During the qualifying process, the world’s top 36 men and 18 women will combine their best right and best left. The top eight men and top four women will compete for the historic title in the grand finals on Sunday.”

The tournament website states that each surfer will have six opportunities, three lefts and three rights, and that each surfer's score will be made up of his best left and his best right. Then, in the finals, the 12 qualified surfers (eight men and four women) will again surf six waves each and the sum of their best left and right will crown the champion.

Other new features include an aerial exhibition event on Friday afternoon and a longboarding event on Saturday, as well as a concert on Friday, whose artist was not announced, and music from various DJs throughout the event.

Based on the events of the Founders Cup, more beverage stations will be added, more general and VIP tickets will be sold, and cabin rentals and camping will be available in the area.

Finally, it is noted that the wave will be "improved" which surely means that there will be an aerial section in Lemoore.

For the first time in history, a CT world champion will have been crowned thanks to points earned in a wave pool. All photos: WSL/Cestari
