Slater insists on being allowed to go surfing
“If social distancing works, couldn’t these officers help monitor and make sure everyone is aware of this?” says the best ever
The best surfer in history, Kelly Slater, once again showed his disagreement with the rules that keep him out of the water due to the Covid-19 pandemic. From Australia, on his Instagram, he said that they did not let him surf and asked if it would not be more logical for the authorities to ensure social distancing instead of closing the beaches, reported the Brazilian website Waves.
“I was told by the authorities that I can’t look at the ocean in Australia today. It’s the first time,” he explained, adding: “Below (in a photo of an empty Lowers) we have officers guarding Trestles and making sure no one is surfing. Obviously this measure is making sure that any other unpatrolled spot becomes crowded (and some people go crazy).”
“I’ll ask a rhetorical question: How is this helping? If social distancing is working, couldn’t these officers help monitor and make sure everyone is aware of this? These are strange times, my friends,” he concluded.
A few weeks ago Slater had said that he did not understand why surfing was wrong if social distancing was respected."a tremendous ridiculousness and irony," he said.
