Slater launched the shorts he designed himself

Dry, flexible, lightweight and made from recycled materials. It costs between $120 and $150.

Kelly Slater's brand Outerknown last week introduced the first shorts designed by the 11-time world champion himself. After two years of development, APEX was created, the collection of water shorts which are 86% polyester made from recycled materials, reported surfing business site Shop Eat Surf.

"The short is water-repellent, durable and has a four-way stretch system for less water absorption and greater mobility. While most of these have chemicals that harm the ocean, the APEX stays light and dry," the statement added.

For his part, Slater himself explained: "The APEX is a combination of everything you need with a minimum of look and feel. This is our competition style, we wear technical shorts. We made this piece out of necessity, for me, to have a competition short within the Outerknown line that I can rely on in any situation" said Kelly Slater regarding the new product.

The shorts are already on sale on Outerknown's website with prices ranging from $125 to $150.

Three years ago, the eleven-time world champion and renowned menswear designer John Moore founded Outerknown. They sought to differentiate their brand by creating products using recycled, organic or regenerated materials.
