Slater made it to the Thruster category and won the most luxurious surfing tournament in the world
He beat Dorian once again in the grand final
The best in history, Kelly Slater, won the most luxurious tournament in the world, the FS Maldives Pro, which this year had half of Momentum Generation competing.
Slater started the day with wins over Rob Machado and Taylor Knox, then beat local Iboo Areef and finally in the decision he beat Machado again.
With the victory in Single Fin and Thruster, he faced Shane Dorian in the grand final of the event (the two who had the highest score in the three styles of boards competed.
The final, event organizers reported, was fairly slow and Slater quickly combined a couple of good waves to leave Dorian needing two excellent waves to overcome him.
The Hawaiian landed the second best wave of the final, an 8,7, but it was too late.
This traditional event invites former champions or outstanding surfers to compete in single fin, twin fin and thruster. After the two divisions have been contested, two finalists are determined based on who had the best combined performance.
