The best surfer in the history of Peru, Sofía Mulanovich, asked the surfing community to comply with the quarantine in force in the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mulanovich lives across the street from Señoritas, can see the waves at Caballeros and identified several surfers in the water. In one of the stories posted yesterday, she films about twenty people in the first break and comments: “Quarantine day and look how many people in the water.”

In her message, she explains: “I wanted to tell all those people who love to go surfing like me that we are in quarantine, that they can't be in the water. I understand that maybe the sea can be in front of their houses and they don't have to walk far to get there but also think about everyone else, if people see people surfing then those who like jogging will go jogging, those who like to do other activities also go out and in the end nobody respects the quarantine.”

“I think we have to set an example and do the same for others;  I think there are a lot of vulnerable people in this stage that we have been through and we have to be supportive and put on the shirt for Peru, I think that is the important thing. So to all those who are in the water, hold on, there will always be waves like this," he concludes.

In accordance with regulations in Peru, the population was urged to remain at home.

In Punta Hermosa, where Sofía lives, the municipal security guard is in charge of ensuring that there are no people surfing. Yesterday, it seems that the controls did not work.

It is not known how those who go surfing in Peru are penalized; in some European countries fines range from 200 euros and up.
