Sofia Mulanovich left the Heroes of May after hitting herself with stones

The former world champion was taken to hospital where she will receive stitches on her right arm.

Update 16:53: Sofia Mulanovich received eight stitches in a wound near her right elbow, she is resting with painkillers and taking antibiotics.

The 2004 world champion, Sofía Mulanovich, had to abandon the Héroes de Mayo Iquique Pro after hitting the rocky bottom of the waves at La Punta.

Mulanovich fell ill during a maneuver and after the foam passed, they asked her over the loudspeakers if she was okay and when she refused, the emergency personnel went to assist her.

She was escorted out and they found a deep cut on her ear measuring about three centimetres. They said that the wound will most likely be stitched up.

Sofia said she thought she had hit her head but in the end there was no injury there.

One of the main locals of the wave, Andro Crvik commented that the Peruvian was close because of the way the Peruvian fell.

Today was one of those days where you put everything into perspective and realize that the only thing that really matters is health; your life can change in seconds, that's why today I thank the universe that I didn't fall 2 seconds later in this wave because I clearly realize that I would fall directly head first into the rock. Obviously this fall had its consequences and I have a cut on my arm with several stitches and I'm bruised all over and still in shock but glad it wasn't worse, I will never put myself in this situation again and I forgive all my loved ones who saw this wave live because I know they had a bad time. Thanks to all my brothers of the sea who helped me and calmed me down when I was about to lose my calm, as you can see in the video. A few days of rest and out of the water for me and then to compete in South Africa where they already told me that there will be no rocks in the way 🙄😂 ufff what a relief .... . . 🎥 @joseplazam . . #wipeout #fall #sea #consequences #extreme #extremesport #wsl #stones #cut
