Peruvian Sol Aguirre shed tears several times before receiving the golden ticket that symbolizes her qualification for Paris 2024, saying she was more nervous than competing in a series.

Once on the live broadcast, she also couldn't hold back her tears with the president of the ISA, Fernando Aguerre, at her side. She then explained: “What happens is that I have cancer and I cry for everything and even more when I achieve things that I imagined but I know that I suffered a lot and I fought until the end and having all the adversities that I had last year with results and injuries and everything. That's what makes me cry, it's like I can finally let it go because I know that I have achieved this and I have endured not giving up and continuing with the pain just the same. That's why I cry.”

“I feel nervous like never before, I am super, super happy, I have no words for the first time in my life,” she said after receiving the golden ticket.

Regarding her preparation, she said: “I plan to go several times to train and practice and enjoy those waves and prepare myself as best as possible to put on a good show for my country and bring home a medal. Go to Tahiti and fight for my country and all those who support me to bring home a medal. I have taken a good step but now I have to do more.”

Asked if Teahupoo gets eight to 10 feet tall: “He’ll go headfirst, with my helmet and my Channel Island, holding on to the rail.”

“Dedicated to my entire country, my family, my boyfriend and all the people who support me,” she said.

He added that he will keep his ticket behind his bed.
