Peruvian Sol Aguirre and Mexican Alan Cleland finished fifth and ninth respectively in the junior world surfing championship that concluded today in the waves of Jinzun Harbor in Taiwan.

Aguirre was unable to beat Japan's Sara Wakita in her quarterfinals and thus achieved her best result in three participations in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Alan Cleland, who had started on the right foot, winning his heat with one of the highest scores of round 1, was unable to beat South African Eli Beukes, who beat him by 15,16 to 12,37.

Also participating in the event were Raúl Ríos from Peru, who lost to Luke Slijpen in round 2, and Lucía Machado from the Canary Islands, who lost to Sol Aguirre, also in round 2.

The tournament was won by Lucas Vicente of Brazil, who left American Kade Matson in second place. Justin Becret of France and Joh Azuchi of Japan tied for third place.

In the women's event, Amuro Tsuzuki of Japan defeated Alyssa Spencer of the United States, leaving Wakita of Japan and Gabriela Bryan of Hawaii tied for third place.
