Sol Aguirre finished fifth and Jhonny Guerrero ninth in the WSL Junior World Championships

Peruvians once again represented South America well at the top youth surfing event of the World Surf League

Peruvians Sol Aguirre and Jhonny Guerrero finished their participation in the youth world championship held in Taiwan and which is expected to have its final day tomorrow.

Aguirre won her debut heat, catapulting her straight into round three where she placed second. In the quarterfinals she fell to eventual champion Kirra Pinkerton of the United States.

“This week of surfing has been incredible,” Sol Aguirre wrote on social media. “I’m happy to place fifth in the junior world championship and to be in the top 8 worldwide, but I’m even happier to have managed to get good scores and to get through difficult heats,” she added.

Guerrero, for his part, began by falling in the second round but recovered, beating first the South African Eli Beukes and then the American Tyler Gunter and finished his performance in the fourth round against Mateus Herdy of Brazil and Caleb Tancred of Australia.

Humble and self-critical as always, the Chorrillos native wrote on his social media that he lost because he did not follow his strategy. “I feel so frustrated, I have to be patient to be a better competitor,” he added.

The World Cup continues with the quarter-finals determined as follows:
Samuel Pupo vs Cole Alves
Te Kehukehu Butler vs Eithan Osborne
Rio Waida vs Caleb Tancred
Mateus Herdy vs Yuji Nishi
