Sol Aguirre won her third QS in Natal this weekend
She rose to sixth place in the ranking; Arena Rodriguez and Vera Jarisz placed third
Peruvian Sol Aguirre won the third QS of her career this weekend on the waves of Miami Beach, in Natal, Brazil, and rose to sixth place in the regional QS ranking, which qualifies three surfers for the 2025 Challenger Series.
Aguirre beat Brazilian Juliana Dos Santos in the grand final by 12 to 9,64 and in the semis she beat her compatriot Arena Rodríguez with the highest total of the women's tournament, 15,17
Prior to that, in the quarterfinals, Aguirre had beaten Silvana Lima and in round 1 she had beaten Rafaella Fernández, advancing in second place behind Arena.
“It was a very long year and I was a little scared to come here, because I didn’t know this place,” said Sol Aguirre. “I made the decision to come at the last minute and I’m very happy I did. The wave here didn’t seem very good to me, but I believed in myself, I bet on my surfing and I just tried to do the best I could. This is my third QS title, we closed the year with a win and we hope Sol comes back in 2025, with everything.”
Aguirre had already won a QS in Chile and another in Ecuador.
Argentina's Vera Jarisz, who competed on the other side of the bracket, placed third, losing in the semis to Dos Santos. She and Rodriguez finished third and are now fifth and second respectively.
The men's event was won by Mateus Sena.
