Updated: Some moves that haven't been done yet in Slater's pool (and would be nice to do this weekend)

Things are looking too conservative at Surf Ranch, we'll have to see if this weekend's event pushes the limits.

Article updated on September 19, for the fourth event at Surf Ranch, the second of the CT. The Rodeo Flip was already on the list.

The surfing that is taking place in Kelly's pool is just the beginning of what is sure to be a "maneuver" revolution. In 5, 10, 20 years, there will be a bunch of stuntmen (also surfers?) doing the same maneuver on the same wave 1500 times in preparation for the Dubai 2040 Games.

So far in Kelly's pool, they've all been pretty conventional, surfing the wave with the book in hand. The right is two or three barrel moves, then two or three more moves, then the final barrel. The left is about six moves, then the final barrel.

Only recently, for example, is Gabriel Medina skipping the left pole and taking advantage of it to gain speed and make more radical maneuvers.

The truth is that there are still many maneuvers to be done, here is a list that would be good to complete, at least half of, this weekend during the Founders Cup.

Back flip

From the ones performed by Tim Curran and Flynn Novak to the present day, the number of back flips performed has increased considerably. Just two years ago, Medina did one in a series at Barra da Tijuca. The Surf Ranch provides the space and speed to do it.

Albee oop

While there have been several Alley Oops done before, Toledo did one during the Founders Cup, the double rotation that only Albee Layer managed to complete in a spot with more waves and wind than Kelly's ranch would be a good addition to the repertoire of maneuvers performed there. It seems very difficult, but not impossible. Filipe Toledo would be the perfect candidate to do it.

Flippy Moppy Flip

Puerto Rican Hector Santamaría's maneuver is performed in much worse conditions than those in Kelly's pool, so at least we know if it is possible. What we haven't seen is many of the participants trying it in their free surfs. If Medina or Toledo get their act together, we could see it.

Floater Disc in the first tubular section on the right

It may not be the smartest move to win points in a championship but it would be interesting to see some surfers miss the tube section and go over it with a classic floater. Or, failing that, the second one.

Backside double spin

The conditions in which Albee Layer managed to perform this maneuver were of greater strength and size in the wave and also more wind, but who knows, the double backside turn could be completed by surfers like John John or Filipe.

Spindle Flip

Matt Meola would have to be brought in to explain how he does this rotation, but hey, anything is possible in Slater's pool. Anything but smelling the sea.
