Aritz Aramburu, Jonathan González, Andy Criere, Nadia Erostarbe, Leticia Canales and Ariane Ochoa were selected by the coaches of the Spanish national team to defend their country during the 2021 edition of the ISA World Surfing Games that will take place in La Bocana and El Sunzal between May 29 and June 6, the local federation reported on its website.
After a long selection process, Spain had reached a short list of eight surfers with whom it traveled to El Salvador. The decision of coaches Pablo Solar and Ibon Amatriain was that Gony Zubizarreta and Garazi Sánchez would remain as first substitutes, being present during the event.
With this the team has four goofy footers, the three ladies and Criere, and two regulars, Aranburu and González, in an event that will combine right-hand pointbreak surfing (in El Sunzal) and mostly left-hand pointbreak surfing (in La Bocana).
“The eight could perfectly represent Spain at the ISA World Championships, but only six had a place for him. The difficult decision comes a month before the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games 2021. A list that is made after analyzing and seeing the adaptability of each athlete to the conditions that will be seen during the World Championships in the Central American country,” the statement said.
