Spanish SUP riders Juan de los Reyes and Iballa Ruano have made it to round 3 of the main SUP Surfing event at the ISA SUP and Paddleboard World Championships taking place in Hainan, China.

With this, De los Reyes has already guaranteed herself a spot among the top 16 in the tournament, three steps away from the medals, and Ruano among the top 11, two steps away from the medals. The former had won a series in his debut yesterday and today confirmed that he is in good form, beating a Swiss and a Japanese. Meanwhile, the Canary Islander had two matches today and won both.

The other representatives of Spain in SUP surfing, Oscar Ruiz and Alazne Aurrekoetchea, fell to the repechage where they passed their series.

With this, in the partial team ranking, Spain shares first place with the powerhouses of Australia, France, New Zealand and the United States.

For its part, the Chilean team, the other Spanish-speaking nation in the competition, saw both of its SUP surfing competitors lose today: Felipe Pizarro made it to round 3 of the repechage but lost that match, while Franco Bono Pérez was unable to beat a Spaniard and a Dane in round 2. With this, Chile said goodbye to the World Championship early.

The waves were perfect at Riyue Bay, breaking at two to three feet of perfection and in good conditions.

The tournament continues tomorrow with a playoff massacre and three rounds of the main event going into the water.
