The Spanish SUP and Paddleboard team yesterday rose to second place in the partial ranking of nations in the world championship of the discipline that is being held in El Sunzal, El Salvador.
La Roja SUP won two gold medals thanks to Esperanza Barreras and Itziar Abascal (ESP) who won gold in the SUP and Prone technical race. In addition, Duna Gordillo (ESP) took silver in the junior women's SUP technical race and Carlos Alonso Ruiz took bronze in the men's Paddleboard technical race.
The result left Spain with partial scores of 14922, less than 1500 behind France, which leads with 16322, and above the United States, which has 14762, and already quite far behind Italy and Brazil, which have 13097 and 12903.
There are still four medals to be awarded, all in surfing, a part of the event in which the red team has had good results.
Among the Spanish medallists, Esperanza Barreras added her second gold in the event, the ISA statement stated that she “has placed herself among the best female rowers in the sport.”
"My goal this year was simply to come to the World Championships," said Barreras. "All of this, winning two gold medals, is incredible. It's a dream. I'm super happy. Especially for the whole team that is cheering me on," said the Spaniard.
