Spring has arrived with a vengeance in Uruguay

Winter is gone and brings good news to the South Atlantic. Postcards from a storm surge presented by Maui and Sons

The beginning of the seasons seems to suit Uruguay well; one of the best seas of the year came when winter began and the next best one took place when spring began.

The stars aligned on Monday, the swell came in strong and the conditions were perfect all day.

In some spots the sea was rough and in others there were tubes breaking all day. As you can see in this gallery and in the posts of other local photographers (see Instagram embeds below) with the exception of a couple of places, there were very few people in the water.

Maybe there are a lot of Uruguayans traveling, a lot of Uruguayans still cold, or maybe the spring break ended the day before and they couldn't be extended any longer.

The next day, Tuesday, with less intensity but maintaining good conditions, the waves continued and today Wednesday, as often happens in Uruguay, the sea left. Good things don't last long, they say, and in the South Atlantic that's true.

Below are some gems from these days of waves.

The mouth of the Maldonado stream, or La Boca de La Barra, was the most populated spot on the coast last Monday. Solid and consistent waves came in all day and those who did not dare to look for them any further enjoyed themselves there.
How can it be that only one human being appears in this photo?
There were some perfect tubular right hands that just went away on their own.
When the stars align in Uruguay, there are waves everywhere.
