World champion Sunny Garcia will undergo video-assisted thoracic surgery to recover from complications after contracting pneumonia at the hospital where he had been hospitalized since April 2000 after attempting suicide, his daughter Kaila Garcia said on social media.

She said that they were able to move him and now she is "grateful" because they are in a hospital in California. She does not explain when he started, but from the beginning he was hospitalized in a hospital in Oregon.

“Sometimes people get sicker when they are in hospitals for an extended period of time. My father got pneumonia and there have been several complications so he needs surgery to get better,” says Kaila Garcia.

On May 24, an unsuccessful attempt was made to perform a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy to help him eat better. There have been no updates on whether this was actually performed.

The family also reported that he was undergoing dialysis.
