Surfer Max Watson, who disappeared in El Picacho, Mexico in December 2018 while hiking, was last seen in a rental car with a mysterious couple, according to a report The Inertia last week. The missing man's brother, Wiley, told the outlet that he went out to look for him in the mountains in late December when search parties had just begun.

He made it to the ranch where Max had parked a rental car and spoke to its owner David, telling him he had last seen him with a couple. “The clincher of the equation is that the last time anyone saw him, he got into a car with this other couple, who were gringos,” Wiley said. “[Davide] asked Max where he was going, and Max said, ‘I’m going to go to El Picacho. ’ So what appeared to be a rental car followed him. It didn’t go all the way to the ranch. They stopped outside the gate. Max talked excitedly to David, then ran out with a jug of water and jumped in this car and drove off. That was the last time anyone saw him.”

According to Davide, after a brief exchange with Max, the couple appeared on the road. The ranch owner also indicated that the car was gray and a four-door. Wiley suspects that Max knew the couple because he found out that they had hugged.

They are still searching for Max. They found some of his things, such as his wallet and passport, in the car. “We are looking for him with all our resources. We are looking at every canyon from right to left and we have dogs and helicopters. It has been more than three months and we have found no information. Nothing that leads us to the couple,” said Wiley Watson.

“I definitely have a weird feeling about this couple,” Wiley said. “I don’t think there’s anything malicious, but I think if they were local, they would know 100 percent what was going on. But they could be from literally anywhere in the world.”

“I talked to him before he left to hike El Picacho. He said, ‘I’m going to do this hike and I’ll be back in 3-5 days. ’ I told him I wouldn’t have service (I was in Conejo surfing) so I would see him when I got back. It was before Christmas and my family was coming for our annual get-together. So when I got back to Todos Santos and hadn’t heard from him, I thought it was a little weird, but I figured he could have stayed a few more days without any problems, he loved the drawing of the mountains,” the brother recounted. However, as the days went by, they began to become more and more worried.
