Surfing Australia has announced the launch of a competition that will be broadcast as a television series and determined by a judge and the audience.

Rivals will feature eleven Australian surfing icons - Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Dean Morrison, Bede Durbidge, Josh Kerr, Danny Wills, Shaun Cansdell, Jay Thompson, Glen Hall, Kai Otton and Nathan Hedge - who will have two hours of surfing at their local break to show their best and advance in the competition.

There will be 13 consecutive episodes that will be broadcast on Canal Nueve starting at 12pm on Saturday, August 8.

In a statement posted on the Australian federation's website: “This will be the most watched event in the history of Australian surfing.”

From the two hours of surfing on their 'local' wave, they choose three that will be voted on the platform www.clippero.com by the public and by the head of Olympic judges for Tokyo 2021, Glen Elliott.

Fanning, Parko and Morrison, the Gold Coast team, have already done their two-hour set and the rest are waiting for the waves to come.
