Surfing will return to Colombia on May 25

The protocol developed by the Olympic committee of that country places it among the first sports to return because it is “low risk” for the spread of Covid-19.

Colombian federated surfers will be able to return to surfing starting May 25, the president of the country's federation, Andrés Porras, informed DUKE today.

In a report prepared by the Colombian Olympic Committee, which is widely considered one of the most serious and strict on the continent, surfing was placed on the list of “lower risk” sports, along with golf, tennis, archery, sailing and open water swimming, among others, making up 18 sports that will be the first to return.

Surfing has not been allowed in Colombia for 50 days.

“Starting on the 25th, each municipality can allow us to surf in the areas they consider,” said Porras. “We have already started the process with our members so that the different municipal entities authorize us to safely return to the water,” he added.

"We hope to resume regular training sessions for national and regional teams between May 25 and July 1," he said.

If the return to the water goes well, recreational surfers could return to the waves a month later, between July and August.

In the report (see below) football, basketball, volleyball, skateboarding, jiu jitsu and a long etcetera appear as high and elevated risk sports for Covid 19 contagion.
