Talking about El Zonte with Stanley Perez

A new mini clip and its corresponding five questions

Note submitted by Surf City - El Salvador Travel

A permanent presence on the waves of El Zonte, Stanley Pérez has been improving his surfing in leaps and bounds, so much so that he is now at a high level for national and international competitions.

His latest clip shows him breaking the wave at his home, El Zonte, and it was the trigger for him to do a mini interview in which he talks about his relationship with the wave that sees him almost every day.

Continued below.

Why do you like surfing in El Zonte?
Because El Zonte is a very consistent wave and allows for many maneuvers, it is a very high performance wave.

What is the wave like for doing backside aerials?
To practice backside aerials it is a spectacular wave with a good wall, lip and it has good sections where you can gain a lot of speed and that is what is mainly needed for the aerial.

Any tips on how to perform them well, like in the video?
Well, I'm not an expert in aerials, but something that helps me to execute them from the backside is mainly generating good speed, and something very important in the rotation is the gaze, looking over the shoulder.

Who is the best surfer you saw in El Zonte?
Obviously Bryan Pérez knows the wave like the back of his hand.

What was the best wave you surfed there?
One of my best waves was during the rainy season, the waves are bigger and connect very well.

I remember that I was with friends riding waves. We were talking when the set came and the wave I took from the moment I saw it was going to be a perfect wave, about five or six feet. It started straight away with a tube, I did a couple of re-entries and at the end I took a hit.
