Teco Padaratz was denied candidacy for CBS presidency

With elections scheduled for February 22, Adalvo Argolo and Marcelo Barros are currently the only two candidates eligible to run

Former professional and legendary Brazilian surfer Teco Padaratz will not be able to run for president of the Brazilian Surfing Confederation, the website reported. Waves.com.br.

Two of the three lawyers who formed a tribunal to hear the complaints filed by the candidates considered that the fact that Padaratz had confessed to having spread false news against members of the athletes' tribunal was sufficient reason for his list not to be presented.

One of the lawyers stated that “Padaratz used his status as a nationally recognized athlete to spread fake news and try to manipulate an electoral process,” Waves reports.

“I felt completely humiliated, cornered, attacked. My words were highly distorted in the final arguments of two members of the electoral commission and I do not agree with the decision or the way the hearing was conducted,” said Teco, who will seek to reverse the decision.

For his part, Adalvo Argolo, who has been president of CBS for several years, had three complaints against him: “reckless management”, “lack of accountability” and “confidence in assets”, but all three were not taken into account by the court.

With elections on February 22, there are currently two candidates who can run in the elections: Argolo and Marcelo Barros from Bahia.

The Waves article estimates that all the legal entanglements that Brazil has faced in recent years have cost the country's surfing more than 1.150.000 dollars that were not used.
