Puerto Escondido local Tehuen Petroni was the best Latin American in the QS 1.500 Oaxaca Pro that just concluded in the Puerto Escondido tubazos.

Petroni went through his quarter-final series earlier today against Manuel Selman and then failed to beat American Jackson Butler.

The result was by far the best of his career, giving him 840 points that will move him from 963rd place and into the top 400 in the QS.

Tehuen's brother, César, also achieved the best result of his career after placing fifth in the tournament and being the second best local and the second best Latin tied with Manuel Selman of Chile.

The waves got big for the final day, breaking a solid six to eight feet. The event was won by young goofy footer John Mel who adapted well to the conditions, took the bombs and beat Jackson Butler in a 100% American final.

The other semi-finalist was also American Nick Marshall.

Final results:
1- John Mel
2- Jackson Butler
3- Tehuen Petroni and Nick Marshall
5- Manuel Selman, César Petroni, Colt Ward and Skip McCoullough

After eight years, the QS world tour returned to Puerto Escondido, where for four years a QS was held that was very well received among competitors.

The champion list now looks like this:
2019: John Mel
2011: Kiron Jabour
2010: David Rutherford
2009: Clay March
2008: Angelo Lozano
