The 2022 World Surfing Games will be held in Huntington Beach

Between September 17 and 24, the winning nation will extend its Olympic quota to three people per gender.

The 2022 World Surfing Games will take place in Huntington Beach, California from Sept. 17-24, the International Surfing Association announced Tuesday afternoon.

Surf City USA hosts a World Surfing Games for the first time since 2006, after having hosted the junior world championships in 2019 and 2018.

The event will have the added value of the champion nation receiving one more quota per gender for qualification to Paris 2024.

ISA President Fernando Aguerre said: “Huntington Beach becomes the first step in our exciting quest to the 2024 Olympic Games. Great waves and Southern California’s strong surf culture made Huntington Beach a natural choice for this iconic event.”

“With an additional Olympic spot up for grabs for the top men’s and women’s teams at these 2022 ISA World Surfing Games, the competition for the coveted ISA World Team Champion Trophy will be epic and the biggest ever,” he added.
