The women's branch of this year's ALAS tour will end on the consistent Las Machas beach, in Arica, between December 1 and 4 with the Latin Girls Arica Prime, the highest qualifying stage of the ALAS tour, key to determining the qualifier for Santiago 2023 that will come through the circuit.
According to the organization's information to DUKE, the event will distribute 10.000 dollars among the best and will be of fundamental importance for the aforementioned classification since in the tentative schedule there will only be one other stage of that qualification.
Several of the continent's best female surfers are expected to be present, seeking that coveted spot in the second historic presence of surfing in the world's largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.
“This is an invitation to be part of a unique women’s surfing event in Latin America and the most important in Chile,” event organizer Alejandro Sánchez told DUKE. He added: “The Latin Girl Arica Prime, in this new version, represents the opportunity for athletes to obtain points to access direct classification for the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023, and these, in turn, are a direct ticket to the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.”
“We are developing a staging that makes reference to our joyful and enthusiastic culture through an allegory that we will call “Professional Women's Surf Carnival” and with this we will deliver a totally new and renewed experience to the athletes, the public and the local community, integrating the private and public sectors in this event,” added Sánchez.
Las Machas is a very consistent beach break with perfect waves that break from the outside and all the way to the shore, allowing for many maneuvers. It is located north of its neighbors, the well-known El Gringo and El Buey.
