The first Surf Lake to be opened to the public in the town of Robina on Australia's Gold Coast will open in the second half of 2020, the company announced in a press release. Construction will begin in late 2019, the press release said.
“As a company we are incredibly excited to announce our commitment to build a facility on the Gold Coast. We have been overwhelmed by the support and encouragement we have received from both Council and the Queensland Government,” said Surf Lakes CEO Mal Borgeaud.
“It makes sense for us to build a commercial facility here, the Gold Coast is our hometown. We know the facility will bring huge benefits to the community, not only by providing waves and surf-oriented fun… It will be a boost for jobs, tourism and the local economy,” he added.
Surf Lakes' 5 Waves technology is capable of generating five different wave levels at the same time. The new pool will be the first to be open to the public.
