The Haleiwa Challenger Series is here
Cali will face John John and Maxime, Lucca will face Ribeiro and De Vries, Alonso will face Bourez and Ohhara and whoever advances from the previous round; Ariane will face Anderson, Tsuzuki and Mendes
The four Spanish-speaking surfers with a real chance of qualifying for the CT at the Haleiwa Challenger already have their matches set:
The first to go into the water will be Carlos Muñoz who will face John John Florence, Maxime Huscenot and one more surfer who advances from round 1.
Next up will be Lucca Mesinas, who will face Alex Ribeiro, Beyrick DeVries and one more surfer who advances from the previous round.
Finally, Alonso Correa is ranked 16th in the series ahead of Michel Bourez and Hirotto Ohhara.
The big news about the series publication is that the WSL respected the format used in the Triple Crown and used four-person series.
The three of them entered pre-qualified in the second round and are guaranteed 600 points in the worst case scenario. With this 80-surfer format, if they advance a round they are guaranteed 1800 points, which in the case of Carlos Muñoz would already improve his score line.
For his part, Messinas has to go through two series to improve his score, that is, reach the quarter-finals, which would give him, in the worst case, 3400 points, which would change the 2500 points that make up his worst result in the ranking.
Alonso, who has 7500 points and more, has to think about at least reaching the quarter-finals or semi-finals to at least surpass the current ranking line, which is at 9500 and is expected to rise.
Meanwhile, Aritz Aranburu and Ruben Vitoria, who are in series 1 and 2 of the round of 80, also managed to enter the event.
Among the ladies, Ariane Ochoa, who is in 12th position and has more than 10.000 points, enters the event in round 1 and in her debut will face Phillippa Anderson, Carolina Mendes and Amuro Tsuzuki.
By passing that series alone, the surfer from the Basque Country will be improving her score line, but to guarantee a solid result, with the cutoff line at 12500, Ochoa has to think about passing at least two series to dream of qualifying.
The following surfers will also compete in the women's division: Leilani McGonagle, Leticia Canales, Daniella Rosas and Brisa Hennessy.
