“At present, no ISA events are planned in Russia or neighbouring regions, and competitions will not be considered there as long as this terrible invasion continues,” they said in a statement.

The International Surfing Association condemned Russia's invasions of Ukraine and announced it will not hold events in Russia while the conflict is ongoing, according to a statement sent out on Friday.

“The ISA stands in full solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people and strongly condemns the military action of the Russian government. At present, no ISA events are planned in Russia or neighbouring regions, and competitions will not be considered there while this horrific invasion continues. The safety of the public, athletes and officials must be the highest priority,” they explain.

They added: “We have reached out to the Ukrainian Surfing Association to express our concern and hope that all their athletes and loved ones are safe. The ISA will support the Ukrainian surfing community in every way possible. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this humanitarian tragedy and we hope that peace will be quickly restored.”

There was no announcement of a ban on the participation of the Russian federation or its athletes in future World Cups, as FIFA is stipulating for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
