The Latin American surfing circuit, supervised by the Latin American Association of Professional Surfers (ALAS), will hold its third stage this week at the most famous beach break in the world: Zicatela, Puerto Escondido.
This is the first time in history that the Puerto tubes have welcomed the ALAS circuit and the athletes have been able to welcome them: More than 80 surfers from 10 countries have already confirmed their attendance.
Among them, in the open men's category, are former world champion Jhony Corzo, a local from Puerto Rico, multiple Latin champion Gato Chila, Peruvian champion Juninho Urcia, former Latin champion Martín Passeri and American innovator Jacob Szekely.
There are also female, junior and longboarder participants. The Chilean brothers Nico and Vicente Díaz, the Argentine Coco Cianciarulo, the Peruvian Analí Gómez, and the local Shelby Detmers will be some of the participants.
“It is a pleasure to return to Mexico because of the quality of the waves and the people there, because of the entire Mexican surfing community, which has a great level. And returning to the most emblematic beach in the country, Puerto Escondido, is truly an honor and we hope that the waves are up to par, as always,” said the president of ALAS, Karín Sierralta.
He added: “There is a lot of expectation from the surfers because it is not a beach where competitions are normally held and it is a great opportunity for the tour boys to show off with their tubes.”
“Then we close in El Salvador, so it is a luxury closing of the ALAS tour so it seems that good things are coming for next year,” he concluded.
The wave forecast shows waves between one and two metres, but with the period improving noticeably between Friday and Saturday.
