On Monday, January 13, the 2020 edition of the Latin American surfing circuit will begin on the waves of Sector 5 of Reñaca with a new edition of the Maui and Sons Viña del Mar Open of Surf, a 3-star tournament that will distribute $15.000 in cash.
For the fourth consecutive year, the regional tour begins in Chile with this tournament that takes place at the same time as the boom of the Chilean summer season.
Of the three editions held, two were won by Guillermo Satt who had also been a finalist in the ALAS de Reñaca in 2006. Among the ladies, Lorena Fica, Jessica Anderson and Paloma Santos divide the trophies from previous editions in that chronological order.
For this year, some local and international talents have already signed up, such as Chileans Manuel Selman, Lorena Fica, Noel de la Torre, Maximiliano Cross, Vicente and Nico Díaz, the Peruvian brothers Mar and Lucas Pérez del Solar and the Uruguayan talent Martín Ottado.
Regarding the upcoming event, Maui and Sons Chile Marketing Manager, Giancarlo Giglio said: “We are starting 2020 with a great desire to continue positioning surfing in Chile, especially with international dates, such as ALAS, in this way we promote our beaches and local tourism.”
For this year's tour, ALAS has tentatively planned 11 stages that include new stops in California and Puerto Rico (More information about this here).
Last year's champions were Uruguayan Lucas Madrid in open, Peruvian Analí Gómez in open women and Chilean Noel de la Torre in junior.
