Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy's Olympic qualification will be decided in Hawaii

Both she and Paige Hareb lost in the third round today in Portugal and both still have a chance of qualifying for Tokyo 2020; only by winning in Maui would the Kiwi catch up with the Costa Rican

The Olympic qualification for Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy will be decided in Honolua Bay, Hawaii, where the tenth and final stage of the women's world tour will take place between November 25 and December 6.

Today in Portugal, both Brisa and Paige Hareb from New Zealand, her main rival for the classification, lost in the round of 16 surfers, which gives them both a ninth place and 2.610 points for the ranking. With this, Brisa is left with 27.060 points and Hareb with 19315, which still leaves the Kiwi with a chance.

In the worst case scenario for the Ticos, if Brisa loses in the first round in Hawaii and Hareb wins the championship, the score would remain the same for the Tica and the Kiwi would reach 28270 points. Only by winning can the New Zealander surpass Brisa.

Similarly, if Brisa advances to round 3 in Hawaii, placing ninth would give her a total of 28625 points, which would leave the Kiwi with no chance.

The chances are already very high for Costa Rica to celebrate a historic qualification for surfing's debut at the Olympic Games.

Regarding the reclassification through the CT, with Silvana Lima and Coco Ho having also lost in round 3, the fight between them will be decided in Maui.

What raises a red flag for the Costa Rican is that Nikki Van Dijk has made it to the quarter-finals and if she makes it through one more series she will overtake her in the rankings. That is, if the Australian reaches the semi-finals, she will overtake Brisa in the rankings for the final stage.
