The Latin American Pacific became incredible

The season is officially open. The south has woken up and brought joy from Chile to Mexico

Few waves bring so much joy to so much territory as when the South Pacific turns red. From southern Chile to the middle of Mexico, and even as far as Alaska, waves arrive in orderly, powerful and perfect conditions. This compendium is the best proof.

Consecutively, on the 4th in Chile, on the 5th in Peru, on the 6th in Ecuador and on the 7th in Mexico, this swell developed in the form of tubes and waves that still break throughout America.

SOUTHERN CHILE, SUNDAY, MARCH 4

Demonstrating that he knows what he is aiming at with his camera, photographer Juan Luis De Heeckeren took a few bombs further back than the third section of Puertecillo. Photo: Johannes Bock
"Camilo, who didn't have a long board, had to surf with a 5'8. Everyone else was on 7- and 8-foot boards. And in the end, he was the one who got the best of it with that little board," said photographer Johannes Bock.

SAN JOSE, ECUADOR, TUESDAY, MARCH 6

"Everything came together to make Tuesday, March 6 an epic day at San José beach in the province of Manabí, Ecuador. The high tide brought out the bombs of the day at a not-so-conventional spot on this wide beach. Glassy conditions, clear water, sun and perfect direction aligned to give us waves," said the photographer who took these images, Francisco Herrera Bravo. It's clear that Ecuador doesn't need a Kelly pool.

Californian Skip McCoullough has Latin American blood and is a great friend of several Latin surfers on the world tour. Returning from a good season in Hawaii, he found paradise on this sandy Ecuadorian bottom. He was the best surfer of the session, showing class and skill in the tubes. Aurelio Prieto had asked for epic waves and they were delivered. He got a couple of bonbons like the one in the photo on this dream day in San José. Photo: Francisco Herrera Bravo

Puerto Escondido, Mexico, Wednesday, March 7

On Wednesday at noon, when many had given up on the session in Puerto, local Angelo Lozano found one of the best (or the best?) waves of the day and so far this year at his beach. Great wave. Video: Jaciel Santiago
