The Pipe Masters will no longer be a WSL tour event
It will become a special invitational event that encourages “innovation, inclusion and progression”
Vans, the brand that owns the Pipe Masters title, announced that its event will no longer be part of the WSL World Tour and will instead become a special invitational championship that encourages “innovation, inclusion and progression.”
In a press release published yesterday on its website, the company reports that it has the permits from the State of Hawaii to hold the event in 2022, 2023 and 2024, and that it will debut the tournament in December 2022.
They explain that the WSL announced its change of tour with the start of the circuit at Pipe, which “left an opportunity to leverage the identity of the event and evolve it for future generations.”
On the WSL calendar, the first CT tournament of 2022 appears as the Billabong Pro Pipeline with dates between January 29 and February 10.
The same tournament, which marked the beginning of the 2020-2021 tour, was called Pipe Masters.
