NSSA regional event could put Nicaraguans and Costa Ricans in the grand American final
Young Costa Rican surfer Axel Castro and Nicaraguan sisters Candelaria and Valentina Resano will compete this weekend in a new regional stage of the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) that will take place in Hutington Beach, California.
This is one of the most prestigious youth tournaments in the United States, which has the added bonus of potentially placing them in the grand national final held annually at Lower Trestles.

Between 2017 and 2018, Axel Castro competed in eight NSSA regional events, earning 7.640 points that placed him seventh out of 32 surfers. If he gets a good result at Surf City, he would qualify for the aforementioned national competition, in which the best surfers in the United States have participated.
On his social media, he posted: “I'm going to give it my all in the NSSA regionals and represent Costa Rica, Limón and my Cieneguita beach in the best way possible. (I'm) even more motivated because I'm going with my mom Esmeralda."
