The Triple Crown will remain digital this Hawaiian season
The winds of change are blowing: Six waves, one with an alternative board, the winner takes home $50.000 and a wildcard for the new Pipe Masters
The pandemic and the change in the WSL circuit transformed the format of the traditional and prestigious Hawaiian Triple Crown of Surfing, the brand that owns the rights, Vans, announced that the event will remain digital.
Competing surfers will once again be required to submit six waves, each surfed at the three traditional spots, Pipe, Sunset and Haleiwa, with each winner taking home $50.000 and a spot in the new, separate WSL competition, Pipe Masters.
This year's event brings the novelty that one of these waves must be surfed with an alternative board; either a mid length or a twin fin.
Registration opens between November 15 and December 15, with 125 spots available for men and women, of which 40% must be Hawaiian.
Then, the captures of the images in the three waves must be made between December 21 and January 21.
The winners will be determined by the judges and also the vote of the people.
There will be prizes for the filmmakers as well.
for the best clips in each of the specific locations, the clips with the most fan votes, and a prize for the winning surfers' videographers.
