The world surfing circuit will return to Peru in August, this time with a stage of the youth tour that will take place in the land of perfect lefts, Lobitos, on August 25 and 26, tournament organizer Javier Reategui told DUKE.

The O'Neill Cup will have a men's and women's stage and is expected to bring together the best juniors from Latin America and visitors from outside the region.

The stage will also make qualifying for the World Junior Championships, which last year had only one event in Brazil, the Ricardo Dos Santos Pro Junior, more entertaining.

Five years ago, in 2013, a stage of the World Surf League pro junior tour was held in Lobitos. The event was won by Brazilian Luan Wood who beat local Juninho Urcia in the grand final. In the women's category, the champion was Melanie Giunta who beat Miluska Tello in the grand final.

Lobitos was also the venue for the women's CT in 2008 and 2009. The first edition of this tournament was won by Stephanie Gilmore and the second by local queen Sofía Mulanovich.

After a series of youth stages in Peru between 2013 and 2016, in places ranging from San Bartolo to Lobitos, passing through Chicama, no stops were made in 2017. This tournament marks the return of youth events to Peru.
