The WSL has secured its events in Hawaii until 2021

Reached an agreement with the local government

The World Surf League and the City and County of Honolulu have agreed to continue all current CT and QS events in Hawaii through at least 2021, the organization announced on its website last week.

These are the events that will be repeated in the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons:
-Sunset Open, Sunset Beach, January 18 - 28
-Volcom Pipe Pro, Banzai Pipeline, January 29 - February 10
-HIC Sunset Pro, Sunset Beach, October 28 - November 10

Triple Crown of Surfing:
-Hawaiian Pro, Haleiwa Ali'i Beach, November 13-24
-Vans World Cup, Sunset Beach, November 25-December 7
-Billabong Pipe Masters, Banzai Pipeline, December 8-20

In the middle of last year there was an altercation between the WSL and Honolulu because they tried to change the calendar and have the tour start with the Pipe Masters. Since the WSL did not have the permits, the state denied the possibility of holding an event in Pipe. It is not known whether it was for this reason or not, but the entity reversed its plans and returned to its original system of starting in Australia and finishing in Hawaii.

“Hawaii is an integral part of surfing and a very important community for the WSL,” said WSL CEO Sophie Goldschmidt. “The approval of this permit is excellent to not only ensure that the world’s best continue to be tested on the dangerous waves of Hawaii but also that these tournaments serve as a platform for local surfers.

The signing of this agreement will lead to the following milestones being met:
-The 50th anniversary of the Pipe Masters in 2020
-The 45th anniversary of the Sunset World Cup in 2019
-The 35th anniversary of the Hawaiian Pro in 2019

The next upcoming events in Hawaii are the QS 1000 Sunset Open QS1,000 from January 18-28 and the Volcom Pipe Pro from January 29-February 10.
