WSL cancels stages 2 and 3 of CT calendar
There will be neither Sunset nor Santa Cruz Pro
In a brief statement titled “update on” posted today on the WSL website, the organization informs that CT Event 2 to be held in Sunset between January 19 and 28 and Event 3 to be held in Santa Cruz between February 2 and 12 have been cancelled.
The first is due to the Hawaiian authorities' decision to suspend surfing championships, and the second is due to the increase in Covid cases in California.
The decision “is heavily influenced by the amount of time our athletes have been away from home and the complexities of global travel during the pandemic, which has caused significant logistical challenges for athletes and staff members returning home and back to California for the event,” the statement said.
The tour, if it returns in 2021, will return in April with the classic stage at Bells Beach.
