The WSL will be televised on Fox Sports

The league and the multinational channel closed an exclusive agreement for 2019

The WSL World Tour, including the CT and Big Wave Circuit, will be televised in the United States exclusively on FOX Sports in 2019, the sports league announced Tuesday in Press release.

There will be more than 500 hours of surfing broadcasts that can be seen through FOX, FS1, FS2 and the FOX Sports app, which can be viewed starting March 23.

“We are thrilled with the additional coverage FOX Sports will bring to our events and to the millions of fans across multiple platforms,” said WSL CEO Sophie Goldschmidt. “With our athletes continuing to take the sport to new levels of presentation, more people than ever can witness the excitement of professional surfing and all that comes with our global events.”

The statement contained a section that caught attention, mentioning that the stories and commentaries will continue to be provided by Joe Turpel, Martin Potter, Rosy Hodge, Strider Wasilewski, Peter Mel and Ross Williams, without mentioning Ronie Blakey.

Hours later, WSL communications manager Dave Prodan clarified that Blakey will be on the team.

It is also strange that Williams is mentioned, who as far as we know is the coach of John John Florence who is supposed to return to the tour in the first leg on the Gold Coast.

Williams worked the Triple Crown as a guest because John John was still recovering from his knee injury.
