The PASA Games Guatemala 2025 Pan American Surf Festival will take place at Playa El Rosario from July 3 to 13; the traditional festival that unites the Americas will be held in Guatemala for the first time.
This will be a new edition of the event that began in 1993 on Margarita Island, run by the organization founded with the goal of "uniting the Americas through surfing."
First time in Guatemala
Guatemala mentioned its intention to host the Pan American Games for the first time last year, when the ALAS de El Paredón event was held.
PASA President Karín Sierralta later mentioned that the countries that had reached the final stages were Peru, El Salvador, and the eventual winner.
Over the past few years, Guatemalan surfing has taken a turn, with several talents gaining international prominence and also achieving presence in various global and regional events.

Wave
El Rosario is a pure beach break, where the full force of the South Pacific is unleashed. The swells generated by storms near Antarctica and on their way to Central America end up exploding at the Pan American Games venue.
For this reason, it's not really a good idea for the place to become gigantic, but rather medium to small; it's enough to create maneuverable tubes and walls.
The prognosis is adequate
It starts with a series of days with swell, but not huge enough to overwhelm, and from the middle onwards it will have enough pulse to generate waves that are somewhere between fun and good.
Especially in the mornings, the sea will be organized and likely to have many maneuverable tubes and walls.
16 countries participating
The 16 countries confirmed to participate in the event are Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Brazil Factor
This year, Brazil won't be present with a full team. The green and yellow team will have several strong cards, but will be missing seven of the 22 surfers that make up a full team.
This leaves the door open for another country to claim the title again, after three consecutive years of Brazilian victories.
The categories in dispute
Five categories are contested in two genres: Shortboard, Longboard, SUP Surf, SUP Race and Bodyboard.
How do you put together a complete team?
Shortboarders: 6 (three per gender)
Longboard: 4 (two per gender)
SUP Surf: 4 (two per gender)
SUP Race: 4 (two per gender)
Bodyboard: 4 (two per gender)
For this reason, a full team consists of 22 athletes, plus members of the technical team (physiatrists, psychologists, coaches, and team managers, who do not count toward the final score).
How is the champion defined?
Depending on their ranking in the championship, each athlete receives a score: first place 1000, second place 860, third place 730, fourth place 670, fifth place 610, and so on down to the bottom.
The sum of what each team receives determines the final score of each team and therefore its overall team ranking.

Is the medal table not used?
No. The Olympic method of determining which country excelled the most in the event has never been used in the history of the event.
In fact, last year Peru won five gold medals and Brazil two, and the team champion was Brazil.
Top 5 of last year:
1: Brazil
2: Peru
3: Argentina
4: Chile
5: Mexico
Top according to the medal table:
Peru: 5 golds – 1 bronze – 2 coppers
Brazil: 2 gold – 5 silver – 7 bronze – 2 copper
Puerto Rico: 1 gold – 1 silver – 1 copper
Chile: 1 gold – 1 bronze
Mexico: 1 gold – 1 copper
