The artificial wave that wants to compete with Slater's pool

For $60 an hour or $100 a day, three-wave series in the heart of Texas

Amid the frenzy of the first ever open wave surfed at Slater's pool, images began circulating on social media of a perfect tubular right-hander breaking in Waco, Texas, of undetermined size but looking solid and quite impressive.

It's welcome to the race for the best artificial wave in the world, there's Kelly's, there's WaveGarden and there's American Wave Machines. The company that develops waves of all kinds, from the flowriders that are in malls to what looks like a six-foot tube with series of three waves.

A year and a half ago, pros Jamie O'Brien and Cheyne Magnusson had announced that they would be teaming up with the aforementioned company to create waves; this seems to be the result.

According to a press release from the resort's owner, it has been announced that it is under contract to build one of the largest surfing pools in the country at BSR Cable Park and Resort near Waco, Texas. The facility already includes cabanas, water slides and will now feature waves in a five-acre lake.

“I did my research and American Wave Machines are the best. They have been installing wave systems all over the world for the past 10 years and have a perfect track record,” said Stuart Parsons, director of the pool site. “I like that with the PerfectSwell technology you can create an infinite number of wave shapes, and there is no need to change the contours of the pool. We are ready to start digging.”

“I feel like we’re going to surf so many good waves that we’re going to get a lot of fun,” O’Brien said.

There is no announced release date, but it was expected to be in the spring of 2018 in the northern hemisphere (now), and some prices have been reported, and it looks cheaper than Slater's: $60 an hour, $80 for four, or $100 for the whole day.
