The best Uruguayan, Argentinean and Brazilian summer day in a long time
For many vacationers it was larger than what they were looking for and needed, for a few others it lived up to their expectations and capabilities.

All the coordinates came together perfectly: A Saturday, in the summer, with temperatures of over 30 degrees and the presence of an unusually solid sea for the time and a lot of cracked surfers who found more than they went looking for, except for a few…
Not only did Argentina and Uruguay break, but waves as big as nine feet broke throughout southern Brazil, from Rio Grande to Rio de Janeiro.
And in Uruguay the sea arrived in good condition up to the coasts of the capital, Montevideo, in the middle of the Rio de la Plata. From there to Punta del Este the sea increased and some say that the best conditions were in the river above the ocean where the sea was rough at times.
“We left at 6:30 am without rushing and went around all the peaks of Maldonado but only two or three were working and they were not very convincing. We continued heading east, already knowing that at noon the wind would turn to the east. and La Paloma can withstand these conditions better than Maldonado,” photographer JP Malcom told DUKE.
“Halfway there I contacted bodyboarder Emiliano Nieves, who was already in the area, and he told me that the sea was still strong, with more than two solid meters, and that it still needed to settle down. When we got to this spot in the photos, we couldn’t believe the waves that were coming in, drops and bottoms that were like in a movie could be seen in there, and three or four surfers who stood out with some hits,” added the person in charge of capturing these images.
For his part, young Tomás Machado, who also took part in these photos, stated: “It was a day that had been expected for a week because the forecast was certain that waves would arrive. I moved from Punta del Este to La Paloma to look for a better wave and fewer people, but I was not lucky. Where it was working, there was a huge crowd.”
“I got up at 7am and the sea needed to settle down a bit for my liking, so I went to take photos for 'the background' as they say around here. As the morning went on it started to look its best and some photos came out until it was impossible to continue looking at it from outside and we had to go into the water. Without a doubt, so far in 2020, the best day of waves. You could say that now the year has really started.”
Below are some photos and videos from different parts of South America that were blessed with good summer waves.
