After three years, the main international surfing tournament that visits Argentina returned to celebrate its eighth edition.

More than 80 competitors from both divisions were present; today the surfers from the 56 and 48 rounds went into the water. Tomorrow the top 32 remaining in the event will go into the water.

Below is a selection of the best photos from WSL surfing's historic return to Mar del Plata.

Juan Cruz Ruggiero had a very outstanding performance in his debut series, in the round of 56 in which he scored the second best wave of the phase, an 8,25. Then, in the round of 48 he made a good performance but was eliminated. Photos: WSL - Mariano Antúnez
The legendary Martín Passeri said goodbye to the event early with a good performance. With the 11,30 he scored, he would have passed two of the four heats in round 1.
Tomas Goransky flew in his round 1 series but was unable to repeat in round 2. He still took one of the best photos of the day.
Nico Hermida, the author of the best wave of round 1, with an 8,6, then failed to repeat and was dismissed in round 2.
Accustomed to Peruvian point breaks, Raúl Ríos could not pass his round 2 series on the Biology beach break.

Another Argentine talent who fell today in round 2 was Franco Radziunas, who in the photo talks with the legendary surfer and coach, Martín Passeri.
Joaquín del Castillo started off strong in his series but was unable to maintain the same pace in round 2 and was eliminated from the event.
