The world's best took to the water for Day 1 of the ISA World Surfing Games contesting a marathon men's heats round 1 and part of 2.

In modern surfing fashion, China's Zihao Wu knocked out a Nicaraguan and an Irishman and advanced in second place along with a German.
Colombia's Giorgio Gómez got past Kanoa Igarashi and sent Gato Chila to the playoffs.
Darshan Antequera had a solid time in round 1, but in round 2 he had a difficult series that sent him to the playoffs.
Despite having fallen to the play-offs, Costa Rican Antequera showed its weapons.
Bryan Pérez had a very strong series, adding 10,74 points with which he would have passed several heats, but in his series he had an inspired Miguel Pupo and Keanu Kamiyama who sent him to the repechage.
Adur Amatriain is now among the top 32 in the tournament.
