On a day that was thought to be a non-championship, there ended up being some epic waves and some important issues were resolved:

-John John, who needed to get into the water to qualify, confirmed his place in Paris 2024.

-Tyler Wright, who needed to get through a series, did so too.

-Filipe Toledo, like last year, will go first to the WSL finals.

-Alan Cleland is one step away from guaranteeing himself a place in Paris 2024 (if Jordy gets through one more series or Rio Waida or Matthew McGillivray lose in the next round).

Local knowledge is a factor. Vahine Fierro found this bomb while everyone else was just sitting there looking for answers.
If Aelan Vaast had come out of this tube, he would surely have made it to the quarter-finals. But he didn't.
Caitlin Simmers is a beast, at 17 years old she won her series and is one step away from making it to the finals.
Another big wave that could have changed things: Callum Robson almost found the way out and if he did, he would have made life difficult for Jack Robinson.
Of those who won the series, Filipe Toledo had the second worst score: 11 points. But he won and will go to the finals as number one.
Medina is motivated to go to the finals and Paris 2024.
Seeing John John in this condition is pure magic. It's amazing.
Leo Fioravanti scored two eights with something to achieve the highest score of the day: 16,93.
Jordy Smith won his series and has the support of Alan Cleland and all of Mexico.
Mihimana Braye was one of two locals who managed to advance in first place, along with Vahine Fierro.
Molly Picklum took a tremendous hit on this wave.
Seth Moniz, comfortable at home away from home.
