The best tubes in the world chosen by five specialists

Brett Barley, Alex Gray, Anthony Walsh, Nathan Florence and Dane Gudauskas awarded the best tubes in the world

California-based website Surfline.com brought together five of the world's best tube riders, Alex Gray, Brett Barley, Nathan Florence, Dane Gudauskas and Anthony Walsh, to determine which tube is the longest, most perfect, easiest and scariest.

This is how each category was voted:

The longest: Skeleton Bay, Namibia

Alex Gray - Skeleton Bay, Namibia.
Brett Barley - Skeleton Bay, Namibia.
Dane Gudauskas- No Kandui, Indonesia.
Anthony Walsh - Skeleton Bay, Namibia.
Nathan Florence- Namibia.

“Where else in the world do you see 20- to 30-second barrel clips? I can’t think of any other wave on earth where I’ve had a barrel as long as the guys in Namibia have,” Brett Barley said.

The easiest: P-Pass

Dane Gudauskas- Nicaragua.
Alex Gray- P-Pass.
Nathan Florence- P-Pass.
Anthony Walsh - Desert Point or Cloud 9.
Brett Barley- Macaronis.

“With the right size, direction, tide and wind, I think the easiest and biggest tube you can get is at P-Pass. The fact that you can send yourself in that size tube is just amazing. But when you get to the next level out of the boil, and you get positioned correctly, it’s hard to say that there’s a bigger, consistent tube with a relatively smooth drop,” said Alex Gray.

The scariest: Jaws

Nathan Florence - Jaws.
Alex Gray - Teahupoo, Jaws and Cloudbreak.
Dane Gudauskas- Pipeline.
Anthony Walsh - Cyclops.
Brett Barley- Pipeline, Jaws and Teahupoo.

Alex Gray: “The trifecta: Teahupoo, Jaws, Cloudbreak. Each of these spots can bring what you think is fear to a place you never knew existed. For me, experiencing the code red swell at Teahupoo gave me the scariest waves I’ve ever seen.”

The most perfect: Teahupoo

Brett Barley- Teahupoo.
Alex Gray - Cloudbreak.
Anthony Wlash- Teahupoo.
Dane Gudauskas - Cloudbreak.
Nathan Florence- Chopes.

Dane Gudauskas: “From the channel they all look perfect, but positioning and wave selection when breaking is very challenging. Playing with different spots to ride is interesting because you can position yourself really deep to get out of a wave you never thought you would. There are these weird little pockets of energy that seem to accelerate you while you’re in the tube and just when you’ve given up hope, the spit hits you and you go flying. That’s the feeling I strive for when I think of perfection.”
