The contradictions of Filipe Toledo

The Brazilian says he is recovering from an injury and that is why he did not go to the US Open, but today he was doing tubes in Chopes

Brazilian Filipe Toledo pulled out of the US Open because he needed to recover from an injury and get ready for the CT test in Tahiti. And today, the same day he was supposed to be competing in the tiny waves of Huntington Beach, he was in the water riding fun tubes at Teahupoo.

The video by filmmaker Diego Balestro is from a few hours ago:

It definitely reminds me of Slater saying that he couldn't go to Brazil due to injury when he had been surfing at his wave ranch, or that he couldn't go to Keramas but had gone to the swell of the year in Fiji.

The other thing to keep in mind is that Toledo is required to compete in the highest ranking QS event in her region (WSL North America) which is precisely the US Open. If she misses, she must present a medical certificate and if she does not do so, she must pay a fine of 10.000 dollars if this violation is primary.

As is often the case, the WSL has not commented on the matter.

This was the explanation Filipe gave publicly two days ago about his absence from the US Open.
