Italo Ferreira's famous backside aerial, one of his main weapons to become the current world champion and leader of the rankings (see historical review here), wrote a new chapter in the history of surfing.

In a series in two-foot conditions with poor formation against the pointbreak master Conner Coffin, Italo Ferreira would have won in 10 matches, today's match was the exception.

Key to the exception, which angered the Brazilian who ended up breaking his board in rage, was that the judges did not consider that he completed this aerial.

Stab Magazine put the question to its community about whether he had completed it or not, with Stab expert Chris Coté writing in the comments: "He landed it well but didn't control it. It wouldn't be considered complete in any other action sport. You have to land them and get through it cleanly."
