The decision on which beach will host the second surfing event at the Pan American Games in Chile in 2023 will depend on the evaluation of the international technical delegate that the International Surfing Association (ISA) will send in July 2023, Karín Sierralta, president of the Pan American Surfing Association and vice president of the ISA, told DUKE.

Since it is a sport that takes place in a place that depends on weather conditions, an expert in the subject must evaluate whether the place is suitable for the event.

This expert has already been assigned by the ISA. His name is Erik Kramer and he is the technical director of the World Championships. He was the technical director at the last Pan American Games as well as at Tokyo 2020.

The visit will take place in early July because the ISA is in the midst of organizing the World Junior Championships that will take place in El Salvador between May 27 and June 5.

Sierralta will also be attended to, the authority said.

Last week, the issue of the beach for the second largest multi-sport event in the world was on the table after Manuel Selman spoke negatively about Reñaca in statements to the newspaper As, later apologizing.

Today the same media outlet reports that the balance seems to have tipped in favour of Pichilemu, but this will depend on the approval of the international sporting authorities.

Sierralta also explained that for these decisions in such large tests as this, much more than just wave conditions are taken into account, but also infrastructure and transportation conditions.
