The eventful session of Friday the 13th in Todos Santos

“A disappointing day for the big wave surfing community in regards to the safety of every surfer,” wrote Jamie Mitchell

An eventful Friday the 13th took place in Todos Santos, several surfers from the big wave community concluded or showed on their Instagram.

It was the same swell that hit Jaws on the 11th and arrived with force in Todos Santos. More than one professional was well guided by the forecasts because the sea was huge, or too huge?

“A disappointing day for the big wave surfing community in regards to the safety of every surfer,” wrote Jamie Mitchell, although he stated that he would not elaborate further on the issue but that “some things need to change,” without specifying.

“I have mixed emotions to be honest. Our team was prepared for an epic day of surfing but sometimes the universe has other plans,” he added, closing his message by saying that he is thankful that everyone is safe and back home with their families.

Hawaiian Jamie Sterling, meanwhile, shared the anecdote of a giant wave that caught everyone off guard. He said he reached the peak and saw 50 people in the water and that three minutes later a bomb came in that took everyone off guard.

He managed to get past the bomb and “an angel” took care of him to return to the lineup without any scratches, but underwater he could hear the leashes and the boards breaking. When everything happened, of the 50 people who were waiting for waves, only 10 remained.

“That is why I train and do all the preparation I have to do,” he concluded, reporting that Mexican Coco Nogales was “severely” injured in that series.

Experienced big wave surfers Jojo Ropper and Felicity Palmateer also suffered a couple of memorable blows and shared them on social media.
