Peruvian great rider and former coach of the Chilean national team, Miguel Combina, has passed away

When El Colegio was huge, he was one of the few who was in the water


Combines with a giant one at El Colegio.

The respected Peruvian big rider and former coach of the Chilean national team in different categories, Miguel Combina, passed away this weekend, several close friends reported on social networks who mourned his death.

Combina had beaten cancer in 2021, but according to what he himself said in a GoFundMe he created in July of this year, the disease returned, this time to his liver. Combina had returned to Peru after living in the United States and was asking for help to pay for the treatments.

The Peruvian had settled in Iquique in the late nineties, early 2000s, he was coach of the Chilean national team on several occasions and while living in Iquique he rode some of the biggest waves surfed there, especially at El Colegio.

More than one surfer from the city remembers that on the days when one of the queens of Iquique was breaking giant waves, he was one of the few in the water.

On social media, messages to Combina flood his Facebook wall and also his Instagram, recalling his human qualities and his courage to surf big waves.

According to their Facebook, the remains will be laid to rest at Jardines de La Paz, Calle Monte Real S/N, La Molina starting tomorrow Tuesday from 9 am to 9 pm and on Wednesday the wake will continue from 9 am, the cremation will be at 1 pm and the burial of the ashes will be at 3 pm.
